For a long time I stood and looked back at the Island of the Blue Dolphins. The last thing I saw of it was the high headland. I thought of Rontu lying there beneath the stones of many colors, and of Won-a-nee, whenever she was, and the little red fox that would scratch in vain at my fence, and my canoe hidden in the cave, and of all the happy days.
Reaction:

Karana and Rontu-Aru( Karana's new dog ) are leaving Island of the Blue Dolphins for a better future. It must have been sad to leave a place that has been your home forever. When everyone's gone and you're alone with a wild dog on an island and you're so used to your surrounding, when you leave its so hard to let go of the place you grew up in. But when you leave you'll know inside your heart you'll never forget where you came from. Its very sad to leave a place that love.

The girl looked at me and made a motion with her hands which I took to mean that Rontu was hers. "No," I cried and shook my head. I picked up my spear.
Reaction:
Karana met a dog and she named it Rontu which means Fox Eyes. They became very close friends and now Rontu found his real owner. Karana never seen this girl and she tought she was the only person on The Island of the Blue Dolphins. She really loves Rontu. Now he has another owner. Karana got really angry and she is offically alone. I would feel very angry and sad because if I found a dog like Rontu smart, headstrong, and independent I wouldn't want it to leave me.

The Island of the Blue Dolphins was my home; I had no other. It would be my home until the white men returned in their ship. But even if they came soon, before next summer, I could have not live without a roof or a place to store my food. I would have to build a house. But where?
Reaction:
Karana's brother died before this part of the story. He was killed by wild dogs. Karana is the only one on the island and she has to make a shelter, find food and water, and she would have to make her own appliances in order to live. Its scary to live by yourself in an island because the only thing you will have there is yourself, your house, and wild animals. Another thing that is scary is that there'sno adults to supervise you when you're doing dangerous things like hunting for food. I feel sorry for Karana because her brother was her best friend and they would only play with each other. She's on her own :(

I kept thinking over and over as I swam how I would punish Ramo when I reached the shore, yet when I felt the sand under my feet and saw him standing at the egde of the waves, holding his fishing spear and looking so forlon, I forgot all those things I planned to do. Instead I fell to my knees and put my arms around him. The ship had disappeared.
Reaction:
Now Karana and her brother Ramo are stranded on their island with no one, only themselves. They would have to hunt and catch without someone else to help them. Karana did the right thing to look for her brother, swim back to the island to get her brother, and now she is stranded with him. With only each other, they have to work with each other and they have to get along. I worry about that because there is no one else to help them with everthing they are not suppose to do alone. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?
